What is Your Dream?

Has anyone ever asked you, "what is your dream job?" Have you had an answer just pop out, or do you have to think about it?  I have to admit that when asked about my dream career, I have to really think about it.

My undergraduate degree is in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Pre-Law and my Master's degree is Organizational Management with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. My interests and hobbies involve writing, fitness, fashion, cooking... Are you seeing a pattern? Exactly, neither do I!

So, while there's no pattern and definitely no predictability, I like to refer to it as being "well rounded". I grew up on a ranch 40 miles away from a town of only 200 (in which I attended high school). My first career was at a community action agency, working with homeless and near homeless families and individuals. I coordinated emergency services for that agency for nearly 4 years. I also contracted with the United Way to keep the 2-1-1 (information hot line) system up to date in the region, did taxes for low income families and individuals, and worked with immigration issues in the community.

When an opportunity arose for my husband and I to move closer to family, we quickly began looking for career opportunities. What I found was a job at a Chamber of Commerce. I submitted my resume on a whim and when I heard back from the hiring committee that I was a candidate for a pre-interview, I immediately called the Chamber Director in the community that I lived to quiz her as to what her job entailed and, of course, what the heck a Chamber of Commerce was for.

So now, here I am. I know what a Chamber of Commerce is for, I love my job, I love my community. Life is good...but is it my dream? Well, I'm still thinking about that.

Until Next Time,
Meg

  1. hmmmmmmm that's a good question! I am still pulling the "I'm not old enough yet to know" card! not sure how long I can pull that off! I still feel like I'm not old enough to know those things! ha! What a joke that is! I think you're dream job is living as my neighbor and friend! yes I think that is it! The other details are just fluff! Jen......for some reason it won't let me post comments as myself! Weird!
